How Will Population Decline Impact Global Economy?

Image
There’s no denying that family dynamics are constantly changing – especially when it comes to how many children people are having. For example , in 1851, an average of 6.2 people lived in each Canadian household .   By 2021, this figure had fallen to 2.5.  However, this decline in the size of a household is not only happening in Canada – but in various other countries across the world. People are simply having fewer children. An extreme opinion on this came after a study from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) stated that there are actually positive results caused by a declining population. For example, this can protect the environment as having fewer people around can result in “ lower carbon emissions, less stress on global food systems, and less chase on transgressing planetary boundaries .”  However, Joblio believes a population decline doesn’t help the environment, but does have a negative impact on the global economy and i...

The Exploitation Of Ukrainian Refugees

Image
Refugees, such as those currently facing displacement within Ukraine, are statistically more likely to fall victim to human trafficking and other human rights violations, such as forced labor. For example, a 2021 report from the United Nations stated that migrants account for more than half of trafficked persons in the world . Displaced groups are some of the most vulnerable members of our society. Their desire for their family’s safety often overrides their instincts to protect themselves. For example, they may be looking for a safe passage out of their home country or work through which they can provide for their family – and traffickers can exploit this by offering them work or transportation only to hold this against them later.  For example, “ many persons fleeing conflict are also compelled to move irregularly to seek protection. For this, they resort to the services of smugglers . ” What may additionally seem like a safe passage out of the country,...

How Can Joblio’s ACE Support Refugees In Canada?

Image
Between March 17 and December 6, 2022, Canadian embassies received 824,494 applications from Ukrainian refugees as part of the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel Program . While this procedure grants them a temporary residence visa, many seek permanent opportunities to remain within the country. However, as” whether refugees fared well in Canada ultimately depends on their employment prospects , ” business owners across the country must work to offer suitable employment opportunities that will provide them with stability, enrichment, and social mobility. “At Joblio, we created ACE, or Applicant Concierge Experience, our proprietary program to help foreign workers assimilate into their host country. Through this program, we provide them with invaluable insight into the host country through language and culture classes, alongside more consistent support throughout their employment, both of which make assimilation as easy as possible,” — said Esther Katz , CMO and...

Challenges For Migrant Women Reporting Abuse

Image
It’s no secret that migrant women face various challenges in their daily lives. For example, a recent report from the International Organization of Migration found that “ women reported more challenges in accessing employment and training opportunities, as well as health-care services, often following abuses and exploitation during the migration journey .” However, beyond difficulty in seeking employment and assimilating into their host countries, migrant women are also “disproportionately at risk from gendered violence, including domestic and sexual violence,” according to End Violence Against Women . A  2022 report from the Globalization and Health Journal “consistently observed that rates of victimization are first, higher for migrants than compared to local populations and second, significantly higher for vulnerable groups of migrants.” Here, vulnerable migrants were characterized “due to their immigration status or individual characteristics (gender, sex, a...
